My Time in Erie, Sunday 9/18/11
Great show last night. Unfortunately the set put my immune system in a terrible state and I'm sick as a dog today. For my friends in Erie, PA who are checking for me on FB. See http://proseed.bandcamp.com/ for my latest releases and thanks to those who supported/bought music after the show. It's really appreciated. Thanks to Iggy from 2189 Skate Shop for having me out and thanks to DJ Nitro who was incredible last night, holding it down on the tables and adding an irrefutable element to my set (hopefully I'll have some footage to throw on here in a few days).
Notes on the city: Erie, PA is a surprising anomaly. For a Sunday night there seemed to be a lot of activity. Around 50 heads came out for the show at the crooked i, and my friend and I were able to grab a bite to eat just down the block at a pretty spacious, comfortable restaurant called Plymouth Tavern (very solid beer list) after 10 PM (maybe it has something to do with football season). I'll definitely be going back to Erie next chance I get. Now if I can just kick this sickness...

Show in Erie, PA Sunday 9/18/2011
Looking forward to traveling to Erie, PA this Sunday evening to do a show at a bar named the crooked i. I landed the slot through a recent connection who's working on a regional distribution network so hopefully some of my units (cds) will be sold elsewhere and through the hands of others. The most important element is to get the music heard outside of Pittsburgh!
Throat's been raw for the last 3-4 days, so I haven't been able to practice. I'll try and knock it out tomorrow and do a light run through of the set Sunday morning before the show just to make sure I'm ready and prepared. Hope to see you there. Check out the Facebook page for more info.

DJ Blacklisted...Nasty Cuts...and I Rap
Show this past Friday (9/9/11) at the Shadow Lounge went well. Turn out was around 30, with most folks leaving unfortunately after the first couple performances (I opened). Many thanks to Cas Metah of the Scribbling Idiots for having me out. He's currently on tour and I wish him good luck with the remainder.
Fortified PhonetX absolutely killed it (that's a good thing for any non-hip hop readers out there). Their DJ held it down for my set, thankfully. Check DJ Blacklisted destroy the tables (again, good thing) after I spew my raps to the crowd.

A Little Tea Goes a Long Way...and Show Friday, Sept 9, 2011
In preparation for tomorrow's show I've practiced my set this morning with a full glass of organic ceylon tea with a few drops of honey. I think it's best to let it cool off a little bit so one doesn't scorch his/her throat.
It's pretty remarkable to note the difference between a dry throat during a song and a tea-relieved performance. Tea seems to revitalize the vocal chords and sharpen one's tone. That being said I usually keep a beer with me on stage, but my experience has shown me a glass of tea sometime before the show, say as far back as 4 hours before a performance, still has a positive effect on vocal reach, balance and sustainability.
Ones stamina is entirely up to conditioning involving the stomach and cardiovascular activity, but a strong voice can be achieved by several sincere practices before the show date and a soft and mellow run through on the date of the show so the entire package is not squandered prior to the actual performance. Please, don't forget the honey...it does wonders.

Lousy Turnout, Good Performances
Performed for about 10-12 people Thursday night, not including the 5-6 artists also in attendance to perform. At least the other acts were interesting and talented (many thanks to Virtue, DJ Emoh Betta and my local comrade Stillborn Identity).
I take it my performance was solid as I felt really good about everything except for the numerous troubles I had playing my songs through a Mac notebook (one has to double-click the mouse scroll but it didn't work for me 9 times out of 10) and the incident with what I can only describe as a grounding device (kicked a hanging chord, pulled the thing off the table and it proceeded to flip over, rendering my once loud set to a pathetic whisper). Three years ago at Garfield Artworks I believe I lifted the same kind of device from a table in order to place my Solid Ground Entertainment vinyl banner underneath it and out of the speakers shot a loud and unfriendly shriek.
I also spilled 12 ozs of PBR onto the stage carpet. I was enjoying my set when I rhythmically turned around into the shadows and kicked my pint glass. It spilled frantically, but fortunately in a dark and narrow path. I continued with my set like nothing happened (don't tell anyone).
I'll put some video footage (digital camera, expect lo-fi) up of the show in the next day or so.

Music...and Also Good Brews!
Aside from you coming out tonight to hear live hiphop, the Smiling Moose has a Thursdays drink special you may want to take the place up on. From 9-11 PM, pints of East End Brewing Co's (Pittsburgh, PA) brews-- Fat Gary's Nut Brown Ale and Monkey Boy (hefeweizen)--will be 1/2 off. My guess is you'll be paying $3 a pint with the special in effect. Hope to see you tonight.

Yes...Proseed & Kid A, An Album in the Works
Though this blog is still a baby, it's worth mentioning and confirming that an album by the likes of myself and Kid A (aka EMS) is in the works, notwithstanding yesterday's (how should I say...?) lack of mention. It's in the earliest stages so I'll hold off on conjecturing a time frame for now.
In an interview with RepPghHiphop.com, my longtime comrade had this to say regarding our current involvement together. "Of the 4 of us, [the now defunct Solid Ground Entertainment] only myself and Proseed are still doing music. We’ve actually been working on something recently."

What for?
This is officially the third blog I've published. I started Right Guy Wrong Town 2-3 years ago now; essentially a rant on politics, public policy and culture. The Light on Beer is at least one half to a full year younger than it's political predecessor and it acts as my attempt at cataloging beers I've reviewed and also commenting on everything beer, usually entailing criticisms of the average imbiber and their diet beer drinking habits.
Music by Proseed will stand as my way of journalizing my involvement in the alternative or underground hip hop scene in Pittsburgh, PA.
As a steady performer for more than 7 years now, I've met a lot of good people in the field, earned respect from a number of talented musicians, discovered how hard it is to pull folks in to attend shows in the city of Pittsburgh, and have driven 10 times as many miles as any other "local" MC in the process. You see, I've never been a Pittsburgh resident, but when it comes to exposing my music, it is undoubtedly my home.
Works in Progress:
I'm pretty busy working on a number of projects with various people. As it stands I'm working on:
A full length album with Ulliversal (producer from Germany). If you're familiar with my earlier projects, Ulli's usually had a spot on the tracklisting. Look for a 10-12 track album to be completed and ready for release by early summer 2012. Expect beats with a colorfully modern feel, tight drums and new growth on the emcee side of things. Note: a securely secret release will garnish the presentation of the original full-length.
An EP to super-dooper EP (7-9 tracks) with Nice Rec. Again, earlier projects would have already introduced you to my friend Nice Rec, who happens to be in my opinion the best sample-based producer in and around Pittsburgh, PA. The project has me extremely hyped to expose it to the city and colleges/universities (through college radio) across the Mid Atlantic because of its inevitable cohesiveness. Expect grit, ambient melodies, fat drums and dope emceeing. Summer 2012.
A 6-track EP from Colorado and Pennsylvania's favorite new duo: Department Store Mannequins. Myself and Doctor Oscify (Colorado) have been setting time aside for more than a year now to come up with the right flavors for a short, but long anticipated first release. Up until the forthcoming EP, listeners have been able to hear Doc Osc and myself collaborate on various tracks found on releases such as Rotten Apples (Proseed, 2008), Broken Walkman Body Shop (Proseed, 2009) and the more recent Magic Medicine (Doctor Oscify, 2011). Expect the unexpected early spring 2012.
